Registration Open - Summer Experience for Children at the Glebe

Enjoy four weeks and three individual days of unique summer experiences, filled with fun and hands-on learning at our 18th century historic site, The Glebe House Museum and Gertrude Jekyll Garden. All programs have been re-designed, keeping our favorite activities, while adding new and different experiences for all to enjoy. New program hours have also been added to provide more options for families. The programs will span Colonial and Victorian life in Woodbury where children will experience innovative, exciting, enriching and fun activities, taught by professional educators and limited to only 12 in a group.

The “Hands on History” week will be offered, June 24-28 for ages 6-12. Relive Woodbury life through history and try colonial cooking, butter making, wool dyeing & spinning, dig for artifacts, play Colonial & Victorian games, write with quill pens, take a walking tour of nearby historic sites and dress in period costumes. Families are invited for a guided tour of the museum given by their very knowledgeable and costumed young historian at week’s end.

“Art of the Garden” will begin July 8th for ages 6-12. This group will enjoy digging in the dirt and making lots of garden related crafts. The hidden stories and magical powers of herbs will be revealed, crazy containers will be planted and the children will learn about & care for the Glebe’s “Three Sisters Garden”. At the end of the week, the children will host a garden tea party for their families, and lead tours through the house and garden.

“A Day in the Life of a Colonial Craftsman” for kids 11-15 will be held July 15-19. Spend each day immersed in colonial America while learning the art of master craftsperson. Participants will merge the past with the present by creating a video blog of their experience. Walks in the park and down to the river to cool –off after a “hard day’s work”, complete their afternoon.

*New: “Colonial Textiles Week” will be held July 22-26 for kids 8-15. Early Americans created all they needed by hand. Learn all about the art of colonial textiles. Sewing, quilting, lace making, knitting, crochet, spinning, weaving, needlework and more fill this week.

*New: Individual Program Days for children ages 8-15, fill the short holiday week of July. Participants can choose one, two or all days. July 1st offers the art of Colonial Stencil-work and Printmaking. July 2nd brings the taste of Colonial America to life with Colonial Cooking. On July 3rd learn to design and make a traditional floor-cloth.

Week long programs are offered Monday – Friday, from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm or 9:00 am – 3:00 pm, with an optional add-on hour of aftercare from 3:00 – 4:00 pm. Individual Program Days run from 9:00 – 1:00 pm only.
