“Cheers to 100 Years!”

1925-2025

The Great Gatsby & The Glebe House Museum

While it may not be a Gilded Age mansion that fits F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby, the Glebe House will also celebrate its 100th year and owes much to the wealthy class featured in his great novel.

Standard Oil heiress Annie Burr Jennings, known as “The First Lady of Fairfield”, whose real-life estate, Sunnieholme, was situated on the Connecticut coast, boasted a stunning mansion and the exquisite gardens of Gatsby fame. Miss Jennings' philanthropic spirit championed the restoration of the then 175-year-old Glebe House, as she was eager to save this unique example of Georgian Colonial architecture and Revolutionary War-era history for future generations.

A century later, Fitzgerald's story continues to captivate us, and the Glebe House Museum remains dedicated to serving the public just as Miss Jennings intended.
